Baje Whitethorne

I saw this painting in the art gallery in terminal 4 of Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport back in 2018.  It's by an artist familiar to me, Baje Whitethorne.  I have always admired his work.  Whitethorne (1950-2023) used his art to depict the beauty and power of Dine' culture. He was a huge supporter of Native America art, mentoring young artists along the way.

Baje Whitethorne’s work always has such warmth, movement, and spirit. I love how his paintings celebrate Diné culture with such rich colors and emotion. It is also wonderful to learn how much he supported and mentored younger Native artists. Artists who preserve culture while encouraging the next generation leave a lasting legacy.
