Regal Lion

 

This portrait of a very regal looking lion was seen at the Arizona Fine Arts Expo.  The artist is Gina Ribaudo. 

Ms. Ribaudo is originally from the Seattle area but has since moved to Arizona.  She especially likes painting portraits and she does live painting demonstrations.

Baje Whitethorne

 

I saw this painting in the art gallery in terminal 4 of Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport back in 2018.  It's by an artist familiar to me, Baje Whitethorne.  I have always admired his work.  Whitethorne (1950-2023) used his art to depict the beauty and power of Dine' culture. He was a huge supporter of Native America art, mentoring young artists along the way.

 

Orange Porsche

 

Daniel Yocum was born in Kentucky and now lives in Nashville Tennessee.  Most descriptions of his work say that he takes a "hip-hop" approach to figurative abstract expressionism.  

I saw this painting at a local art gallery.  It's called "Orange Porsche".  That porsche plays a role in a lot of his paintings and so does that cloud over it.

Mystic Indian

 

John Nieto is one of my favorite southwestern artists.  His paintings are always brilliant with color with a bits of magical abstraction. And, they were always with a Native American theme.

Nieto was born in 1938 in Denver Colorado and he passed away in 2018.
